The History of Kickboxing
Kickboxing originally began in the 1970s in the US as a reaction to strict controls on martial arts competitions that didn't allow full-contact kicks and punches. Safety rules have been updated as kickboxing developed to prevent serious injuries. Kickboxers use punches, kicks, sparring, blocks and do wood-breaking. Some of the first well-known kickboxers were Joe Lewis, Benny Urquidez, Jeff Smith and Bill Wallace. By the time Americans sent teams to Japan, kickboxing had developed into a popular, international sport.
