The basics of the Lunch Box Diet are to consume small amounts of food from your lunchbox throughout the day, which Lovell claims will make your stomach smaller over time. This means that eventually you will be satisfied with smaller amounts of food. Your lunchbox should contain 60 percent vegetables, 30 percent protein and 10 percent condiments or dressing. Eat the foods from your lunchbox periodically to keep hunger at bay and blood sugar stabilized. The program doesn't include breakfast and dinner as part of the plan.
If you don't like counting calories or measuring food, the Lunch Box diet may be an ideal choice for you. Guidelines for packing ensure that you are consuming low-calorie and nutrient-dense foods throughout the day. This program is a good choice if you enjoy snacking, because it allows you to reach for food every hour. Because the foods you put in your lunchbox don't always have to be the same, the plan offers variety in terms of nutrients and keeps you from getting bored. Eating the way the diet recommends increases the vitamins and minerals you take in, which reduces your risk of heart disease, diabetes, cancer, high blood pressure and digestive problems.

The top foods recommended by Lovell for the Lunch Box Diet include broccoli, spinach, avocado, beetroot, asparagus, sugar snap peas, chilies, zucchini, turkey or chicken, cod and balsamic vinegar. However, Lovell advocates packing the items you enjoy and even tells you to eat your favorites from time to time. The diet does not outline what you should eat for breakfast and dinner in as much detail, but it does offer some suggestions regarding preparing healthy meals that are conducive to weight loss.
The idea behind the Lunch Box diet is that planning ahead and eating every hour to keep blood sugar levels stable will help you control your appetite for the rest of the day. However, according to Keri Gan, RD, the diet leaves out some foods that are important to your health. She recommends including whole grains, fruit and low-fat yogurt to make your lunchbox higher in nutrients and more balanced. Keep portions in check to control calorie intake, and include at least 30 minutes of exercise each day to optimize your calorie burn.
