3 Ways to Strengthen Left Hand Basketball Dribbling and Shooting

Basketball is a sport that requires a player to use both hands. Most right-handed players tend to focus on their right hand in workouts because that is their strongest hand. Gradually, they realize that the lack of focus on their weak hand, the left hand, has caused them to be a one-sided basketball player. Strengthening your left hand is important to being a well-rounded basketball player.
Stationary Dribbling
Step 1
Hold a basketball in your left hand, and dribble the ball using only that hand. Bend your knees and keep your eyes up. Place your right hand behind your back.
Step 2
Hold a basketball in each hand, and dribble both balls at the same time. Bend your knees and keep your eyes up.
Step 3
Continue dribbling both balls. Switch to alternating dribbles. The left hand dribbles then the right hand. Pick up speed as you get stronger and more confident.
Form Shooting
Step 1
Stand 5 feet away from the basket.
Step 2
Shoot the ball using your left hand. Repeat until you have made 10 shots. Focus on using correct shooting form.
Step 3
Move to a different spot 5 feet away and repeat step 2.
Step 4
Continue changing spots until you have successfully made 50 shots.
Tennis Ball Dribbling
Step 1
Hold the tennis ball in your right hand. Hold the basketball in your left hand.
Step 2
Throw the tennis ball into the air with your right hand and catch it with that hand without letting it drop.
Step 3
Dribble the basketball with your left hand as you continue to throw the tennis ball into the air with your right hand.
Step 4
Increase the height of your throw as you gain more confidence and control with your left-hand dribble.
