How Can You Easily Straighten Your Bent Motorcycle Tube?

If you've ever been in a motorcycle accident, it probably took a toll on your motorcycle's metal frame. Most motorcycle frames are built from large metal tubes made from tube steel or metal alloy. The bad news is that your motorcycle frame will bend after a serious accident. While your motorcycle frame may seem bent beyond repair, you can straighten the frame yourself without much motorcycle repair experience.
    • 1
Lay out a 4 feet by 8 feet sheet of plywood that is at least 3/4-inches thick and a level surface. Lay the motorcycle frame on the sheet of plywood with the bent section of the frame on top of the wood.

Attach several pipe brackets to the section of frame tubing where the frame is bent. Press the frame against the plywood so the flat side of each pipe bracket is sitting flat against the plywood. Fasten each pipe bracket to the plywood with two wood screws. There are two screws in each bracket to accommodate this.

Measure the bent section of the frame. Purchase a 1 1/4-inch steel pipe. Measure a length of the steel pipe to match the length of the bent section of motorcycle frame. Mark the length on the steel pipe with a permanent marker. Cut the steel pipe lengthwise with a hacksaw.

Put on a pair of work gloves and safety goggles. Place the measured and cut steel pipe directly on top of the bend on the motorcycle frame. Hold the pipe firmly onto the frame with one hand and with the other hand strike the steel pipe with a steel-headed mallet.

Check the frame's straightness occasionally as you pound it with the mallet. Do this by placing a carpenter's level on the bent section of frame. If the air bubble is in the center of the level's meter, the frame is straight.

Unscrew the pipe brackets from the plywood and remove the pipe brackets from the motorcycle frame.
