Best Wichita, Kansas Cruises

    • National Geographic's "Drives of a Lifetime: 500 of the World's Most Spectacular Trips" includes Wichita, Kansas. A "car cruise" can either be a road trip, or a shorter, car-themed drive. Just like boat cruises, car cruises can last from a few hours to many weeks. Shorter car cruises usually have classic car themes or destinations. You have the option of joining an organized car cruise, or planning one just for yourself and friends.

    Yellow Brick Road Trip

    • Kansas Travel and Tourism Division developed the South Flint Hills Yellow Brick Road Trip. This is a car cruise you can follow on your own. This route starts in North Newton and travels south along the 135 to the Wichita area. Wichita stops include the Sedgewick County Zoo, the Old Cowtown Museum and the Museum of World Treasures. This longer car cruise trip ends in El Dorado at El Dorado Lake. Check the coupons tab on the website for savings on accommodation and other travel necessities. You can also buy attraction tickets and access other AAA services right from the Yellow Brick Road Trip website.

    Drive-in Movie Car Cruise

    • Take a cruise in your car to one of the biggest drive-in movie theaters in Kansas. The Starlight Twin Drive-in fits up to 1,300 cars. You will have a choice of two screens. The drive-in shows double features during the week, and triple features on Fridays and Saturdays. Moviegoers can choose to listen to the movies on either classic pole speakers, or through two dedicated FM radio frequencies. The snack bar has a full meal menu with burgers and hot dogs and traditional movie snacks. Children are welcome, but pets must be left at home. Surrounding motels offer discounts for Starlight movie guests.

Girlfriend Getaway Car Cruise in a Limo

    • For an updated car cruise idea, book a limo for a weekend getaway with your girlfriends. Several limo companies in Witchita offer a choice of cars from Town Cars to laser-lit stretch limos. The Convention and Visitors Bureau has created a seven stop "Girlfriends Getaway" itinerary. This includes breakfast at Cero's Candies, lunch at Larkspur Bistro & Bar, shopping in one of Witchita's eight shopping districts and a visit to Salon Knotty & Day Spa. The Convention and Visitors Bureau suggests dinner at the Uptown Bistro, and visits to the Ulrich Museum of Art or the Wichita Art Museum are also on the itinerary.
